Cop injured in ATV accident on Puruni Trail

Two police constables stationed at the Bartica Police station and another were on Saturday involved in a serious accident on the Puruni Trail, Mazaruni River, Region Seven.

According to police reports, at about 17:20h Shawn Welcome, 47, of Lot 128 Four Miles Bartica (driver) and pillion riders Kester Moriah, 46, a Police Sergeant and Shaquille Downer, 25, a Police Constable left for the Purini Backdam on an ATV motor cycle to investigate a report of a Simple Larceny and whilst returning to Bartica Welcome, who was proceeding north along Puruni Trail at a fast rate with both pillion riders collided with a speed hump and lost control of the said motor cycle causing both pillion riders to fall unto the trail’s surface.

Sergeant Moriah was picked up in a semi-conscious condition and transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was examined by a doctor who treated and admitted him. He is a patient in the male surgical ward and is suffering from laceration to his head and abrasion about his body.
His condition is regarded as stable.

Investigation are ongoing.
