The Guyana Police Force is investigating a serious accident which occurred on Tuesday on the No. 60 Public Road, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six) at about 21:30h.
According to reports, motorcar PVV 3113, owned and driven by Dellon Harvey, a Police Constable stationed at Rose Hall Town Police Outpost with occupant Standard Douglas, 32, of No.53 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was proceeding north along the western drive lane of the said road at a fast rate, when it was alleged by Douglas, who was seated at the left front seat, that Harvey swerved west from a herd of cows, to avoid a collision. The driver instead crashed in to a concrete culvert and a metal gate, on the western side of the road.
The motorcar was mangled and the driver was pinned. Douglas was assisted by public spirited citizens who transported him to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
Minutes later, members of Guyana Fire Service along with a doctor and nurses of Skeldon Hospital arrived on the scene and assisted Harvey. He was transported to the Skeldon Hospital where he was examined by a doctor. The Police Constable was treated and referred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment. His condition is regarded as serious.
