GWI’S CEO Shaik Baksh interacts with residents of Swan and Sam’s Ville

Residents of Swan and Sam’s Ville, East Bank Demerara (EBD) will soon receive improved water supply following a commitment by Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Shaik Baksh on October 18.

The CEO and a technical team visited the community to assess the water situation there. It was discovered that some residents were receiving a low level of water supply while about 150 households were not receiving water at all.

“In order to bring relief to these communities within the shortest possible time, a decision was made to connect the well pump to the Guyana Power and Light’s power supply as opposed to current use of solar panels. This will require the installation of two posts and electrical connections by the power company,” GWI said in a statement.

The water company said that the existing 2-inch distribution lines will be replaced with 4-inch pipelines, which will be extended to provide coverage for the majority of the populated areas of the communities.

The residents pledged to assist GWI in the laying of pipelines through a self-help exercise.

Meanwhile, the CEO and his technical team also visited the communities of Waiakabra, Hill Foot, Ideal, Kuru Kururu and Madewini. It was established that the wells at these locations were producing an adequate water supply for the residents.
