A 29-year-old mother of Lot 86 Belvedere, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) was on Sunday morning killed in an accident on the Seawell #19 Public Road.
Dead is Radha Shivcharran, a former teacher and mother of one, who was the pillion rider on motorcycle CK 4094 which was driven by Kenny Teakadharry when it crashed into a steel raid to the side of the road.
Investigations revealed that the duo was riding west along the southern carriageway, in the direction of New Amsterdam, when Teakadharry attempted to negotiate a turn and reportedly lost control of the motorcycle. Both Shivcharran and Teakadharry were flung from the motorcycle and received multiple injuries to their bodies.

The duo was picked up by public spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Shivcharran was pronounced dead and Teakadharry is being treated for a fractured right leg. He remains in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, Shivcharran’s mother, Nandranie, said her daughter left home around 10: 00h and approximately on hour after she received news of her death.
“I was sitting in the hammock eating breakfast and I see a car pull up and the person said Oh my goodness, aunty you nah hear what happen, you daughter end up in an accident on 19 road and just dead,” the grieving mother recounted.
The elder Shivcharran said she spent a lot of time with her daughter, the eldest of her four children. Describing Radha as caring and outgoing, the woman said her daughter, would spend a lot of time home-schooling her 9-year-old son Chandradatt Rajwant. The 9-year-old boy upon hearing of his mother’s death was in a state of shock.
Meanwhile, Nandranie said her daughter and Teakadharry were friends while noting that she had warned her daughter about traveling on motorcycles.
“It is very sad that I lost my biggest child in such a terrible way. I barely get to see her, they only let me see pert of her head. I don’t know how we will ever understand this,” said the grieving mother.
She said while at the hospital, she asked Teakadharry what caused the accident. While crying out for pain, the man disclosed that he was trying to swerve from a cow that was in his path.
“He told me that he see a cow and he try to swerve from the cow and that is how he lost control and Radha pitch off from the bike. I don’t know what to say because he is telling me one thing and other people telling me something else. I wish my daughter didn’t had to go like that,” the elder Shivcharran said.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
