The Ministry of Education and the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) on Friday agreed to meet monthly with the aim of maintaining a “healthy relationship” in the interest of resolving issues which confront them.

Stakeholders from the Ministry and the Union met yesterday to discuss several matters related to the education sector, a joint statement said. These matters include the continued closure and possible reopening of schools, unresolved issues related to teachers’ benefits, review of old policies relating to education which may not serve in the interest of the sector and the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the classroom.

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and President of the GTU, Mark Lyte were present at the meeting.
