A Police Constable stationed at the Ruimveldt Police Station was on Monday evening shot while trying to arrest a suspect in Guyhoc Park, Georgetown.
A statement from the Police disclosed that Constable Ramsingh and his colleague were on motorcycle patrol in the Guyhoc area at when they heard a loud explosion suspected to be a gunshot, coming from behind them.
Upon looking around they saw two men having a heated argument, one of whom was armed with a hand gun.
On making this observation, the policemen immediately turned their motorcycles around and Constable Ramsingh came off his, and approached the man with the handgun, in an attempt to relieve him of same.
A scuffle ensued and in the process, the armed man of Meadow Brook Gardens and also known to the Police, discharged about five rounds, one of which struck Constable Ramsingh on his buttocks and ended to his left hip.
The other male with whom the suspect was arguing made good his escape from the scene.
After being shot, Constable Ramsingh with the assistance of his colleague managed to relieve the suspect of the firearm and arrested him.
The firearm recovered from the suspect is a .32 Taurus Pistol containing a magazine with 4 live matching rounds and a spent shell in the breach.
Constable Ramsingh is currently in a stable condition, receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public
The suspect remains in custody. Investigation is ongoing.
