Almost two weeks after the burial of two of the three teens who were brutally murdered at N0.3 village, West Coast Berbice early September, the third teen, Seventeen-year old, Haresh Singh was on Wednesday laid to rest.
President, Mohammed Irfaan Ali attended the viewing of the slain teen at the Persaud’s Funeral Home, New Amsterdam to pay his final respects and offer condolences to the young man’s family. He assured that the police will continue to work swiftly to solve the case.
“I can assure you that we will do everything in our power to bring these criminals and have them face the law and ensure the three families have justice for their loved ones. Our focus hereon is to ensure the memories of these young men are remembered and that our future does not have a repeat of such horrific and unfortunate deaths of our innocent children. We need to reflect on these incidents and build mechanisms in society to strengthen our nation so that something like this does not occur again. I am hoping that when justice is served, our country should come together and live as one. Unity is all we need.”
Ali, in his address urged the nation to remain calm as the Guyana Police Force with international assistance from the British Government continues their probe into the death of the young men even though police from the Guyana Major Crimes unit have made little progress in cracking the case.
He stated that while the families are grieving, it is only right for everyone to start living in harmony despite their ethnic background and reflect on the pain and sorrow of the mothers crying out for their young sons who were killed senselessly while their murderers are still to be found, as such, he noted that everyone should keep those families in their prayers.
Haresh Singh, was killed just days after the bodies of two teen cousins, Isiah and Joel Henry were found in a coconut farm at Cotton Tree backdam with gaping chop wounds across their bodies.
As a result of that incident, Indarjeet Singh, grandfather of the now dead teen, Haresh Singh and owner of the coconut farm in which the Henry boys were found were arrested. While in custody, Singh received the dreadful news of his grandson’s passing.
Haresh, was heading into the backdam to their farmlands when he was attacked and killed on September, 09th. He was discovered by family members lying motionless and his motorcycle was found burnt a short distance away.
“My grandson never trouble anybody; I don’t know who kill him. I am not pointing fingers at anybody because I live in peace with my negro and Indian brothers in this community. Persons are saying that the protesters killed my grandson but I was not there and I have no one in mind who would do something like that to him. I wat justice for my grandson and I hope the police can do their work and then we will know who did the killing, said Ondarjeet Singh.”
At the home of the young man where the funeral service was held, family members gathered and were grieving the loss of young Singh who was said to be the sole breadwinner of his family since the death of his father.
