Police on the Corentyne are investigating a break and enter at Bhagwan’s Optical and Associate located on the lower flat of Kissoon’s Furniture store, Corriverton Berbice.
The incident occurred sometime between Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Proprietor of Bhagwan’s Optical, Sukhan Singh during an interview with the Village Voice noted that he had locked his office on Friday afternoon after a day’s work and headed to the City, however Saturday morning he was informed of the incident whilst on the way to his office. “My assistant came this morning (Saturday) and she noticed the door was slightly opened but the grill door was locked. She then checked the other door and saw that it was broken so she immediately informed me. I asked her go in and check to see if anything is missing because I wanted to clear my mind, but a few other persons were around and they came in with her.”
Singh estimated his losses to be over $900,000 as over 30 pairs of branded spectacle frames were stolen from the office most of which valued $30,000 and more. Some of the brands include, James Tracey, Guess and Levi’s.
According to Singh, it is not the first time they have had to deal with such. He believes that the same person/persons who had committed the act previously was involved in this, as according to him the same way in which the entry was made into the office last night is the same way in which it was done in the past. He said when he arrived at the office, he noticed the entire placed ransacked and a number of holes on the wall which was used by the thieves to gain access into the building.
Singh, a Refractionist at Bhagwan’s Optical stated that for the past Six years working at the said location, this is the second time the business place was burglarised.
He is thankful that just the spectacle frames are missing and none of their expensive equipment was stolen.
