…Three Berbicians charged for killing Canadian
Three Berbicians were on Friday charged with murdering a Canadian citizen, in what is said to be a contract killing over a longstanding land dispute.
The men were appeared in court charged with murder are: Monasar Beharry, Aszim Shivgobin, and Charran Shedhan who were involved in the brutal murder of the 23-year old Canadian Citizen, Nicholas Jaipaul. They appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore, via zoom at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face the charges.
The men were not required to plea to the indictable charges and were remanded to prison until October 15th, 2020. Monasar Beharry, the alleged mastermind of the murder ordered Shedhan and Shivgobin to lure Jaipaul out of his home and take him to an area and murder him for which they were told they will be paid for. It is alleged that Beharry currently has an ongoing matter in the court with Jaipaul’s grandfather, Ramkissoon Jaipaul over a land dispute they had some years ago.
Nicholas went missing from his #69 Village home sometime between August 16 and August 17th, however; days after a missing report was filed for the young man, his charred remains were found at Moleson Creek between a clump of bush. When the missing person’s report was filed, ranks in Berbice along with the Police’s Major Crimes Unit immediately conducted a thorough probe into the matter which led to them to arrest the two maids who were working with Jaipaul and his grandfather and one of their sons. The man, Charran Shedhan, after interrogation, led ranks to the location where he murdered Jaipaul. He later told investigators that his brother, Shivgobin was also a part of the gruesome act as they were told by Beharry that they will receive a large sum of money when they are finished.
The morning when Jaipaul went missing, his grandfather had received a phone call from an unknown caller indicating to him that his grandson is ‘with them’. “They called me and ask where is Nicholas, so I told them that Nicholas is upstairs sleeping. And they then asked me if I’m sure, I said yes and they then told me that ‘No, Nicholas is with us’. The elderly man then said the caller hung up the phone.” Nicholas came to Guyana in January on vacation and was expected to return home in Canada sometime in May but due to the restrictions on the border he was unable to do so.
