…two elderly among four persons arrested
A taxi driver and his wife along with two elderly persons have been arrested following raids on two properties on Corentyne on Tuesday which unearthed three guns and ammunition.
In a release police said that that on Tuesday between 13:13hrs, and 15:15hrs, ranks acting on information received went to a home in Springlands Village, Corentyne Berbice and conducted a search for firearms, ammunition and other illegal items.
The property, police said is owned by two pensioners, ages 72 and 76, of the said address who occupy the lower flat, while the upper flat is occupied by a 27-year-old male, a Hire Car Driver, his reputed wife, and their five-year-old daughter.
Police during the course of the search of the house and in the presence of the occupants found: One black and brown Polymer 80.Inc .9mm pistol # PF9405C; One magazine containing four live rounds; One SA Sports Outdoor gear bow with arrow; One 12 gage shotgun, wrapped in black plastic with scotch tape and one black Powerline Air Gun (9mm), with gas and pellets.
Police said that a further search was conducted at a house owned by the 27-year-old taxi driver at #76 Village, Corentyne Berbice, where two holsters, and a pistol cleaning kit were also found. All four adult occupants of the house were arrested and taken to Springlands Police Station. They are in custody assisting with the investigation.
