The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) has set JULY 1 to start hearing into an opposition appeal against ruling by the Guyana Court of Appeal that only valid votes count in electing a President, and that its decision on this matter is final. The CCJ will also deal with whether it has jurisdiction to hear the appeal from Guyana.
CCJ President Mr. Justice Adrian Saunders emphasised today that the Court has made no ruling as to whether it has jurisdiction to hear the appeal but stressed that the status quo on the ground remains, which acts as a bar to the declaration of the final results.
It noted also that the submission by the Chief Elections Officer of a final Report on the results of the March 2 elections was done BEFORE the CCJ made its “stay order”.
In this report on valid and credible votes, the APNU+AFC Coalition is deemed the winner of the elections by a single parliamentary seat. Votes impacted by massive opposition-engineered fraud were excluded.
Today the CCJ concluded case management for various parties to make written submissions in advance of Wednesday’s hearing.
