…GTA given power to issue protocols
The national curfew remains unchanged for the Christmas season with persons expected to be within the confines of their home or yard between 22:30h and 04:00h.
Updated COVID-19 Emergency Measures gazetted Monday will take effect from December 1 to December 31, 2020.
Now included as essential services are lodges, resorts and tour companies; the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
Meanwhile, the aforementioned essential services must now comply with any health and safety protocols issued by the GTA in order to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 when hosting clients.
The updated Emergency Measures state that it is the responsibility of the operator of any essential service to ensure that both staff and clients comply with the Emergency COVID-19 Measures.
The GTA will conduct its own monitoring and, services which fail to comply may see their operations being closed or prohibited by the Ministry of Health.
These changes come even as the National COVID-19 Task Force Secretariat (NCTFS) recently revealed that it sent first letters of warning to 42 businesses regarding breaches of COVID-19 Guidelines. Among those, 20 have been issued with final warnings.
Added to the aforementioned changes, while spas have been removed from under the number of restricted social activities, others operations/activities such as bars/rum shops; wakes/vigil; club/discotheque and private parties remain. There are no new services allowed to be opened between 04:00am and 9:30pm.
