APNU Calls for Independent Investigation into Region Two Storm Damage

Detectives are probing the alleged murder of 58-year-old Jimmy Edward Ashby, a Miner of Barima River, North West District. Ashby was reportedly murdered by a suspect known as ‘One Hand Loyde’, sometime between January 2nd, 2024 and January 3rd, 2024 at Arimu Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region #7.
According to a 69-year-old businessman of Four Miles Housing Scheme, Bartica, who is familiar with both Ashby and the suspect as they visited his shop on a regular basis, at about 12:00 hrs on 2023/01/02, he was at the back of his shop cooking when Ashby and the suspect who were at his shop consuming alcohol, got into a heated argument.
The businessman ventured to the front of the shop to enquire what had happened, at which point Ashby told him that the suspect had stabbed him in his chest. Ashby reportedly told the businessman he was “okay” and did not want to go and seek medical attention.
On January 3rd, 2024 at about 06:30hrs, while the 69-year-old businessman was on his way to make a call, he saw Ashby motionless on a bench alongside Arimu Trail. As a result, he called the Bartica Police Station and made a report.
Police ranks who visited the scene, found Ashby’s body in a sitting position on a bench along the Arimu main trail. At the time, the man’s body was clad in a red and white sweatshirt, grey vest and blue short pants.
Upon closer examination, a single stab wound was seen to the center of Ashby’s chest. The body of the deceased was transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital.
Efforts are currently being made to arrest the suspect as the investigation continues.
