Popular restaurant and bar, Palm Court has been given a “final warning” by the National COVID-19 Task Force Secretariat (NCTFS) to desist from breaching COVID-19 protocols or the business could be shut down.

In a letter on November 21, 2020 from Director if the NCTFS, Colonel Nazrul Hussain to the Manager of Palm Court Restaurant and Bar, it was noted that a previous warning letter was sent on October 30, 2020 but compliance to the established COVID-19 measures has not been met.

“It is evident that despite being warned [on October 30], you and/or your agents continue to be in breach of the National COVID-19 measures contained in the Official Gazette number 198 of 2020. This blatant disregard to the COVID-19 measures reflects your contempt for the Laws of Guyana which may result in the application of legal sanctions, with the possibility of having all privileges suspended or licenses revoked,” Hussain warned.

The Palm Court Restaurant and Bar is located on Main Street, Georgetown. The COVID-19 measures restrict social activities at bars and clubs among others. Food services and restaurants are permitted to be opened only for delivery, drive-thru, curbside pickup or delivery between 04:00hours and 21:30 hours.

Indoor and buffet dining is prohibited and outdoor dining at a restaurant is only permitted between the aforementioned hours and with tables six feet apart and no more than one person per table. Staff must also wear face masks and sanitize the area often.

Meanwhile, a curfew has also been imposed between the hours of 22:30 hours and 04:00 hours whereby all persons, unless otherwise authorized, should be in the confines of their home.

According to the measure, any person who fails to comply with any of these measure commits an offence under Section 152 of the Public Health Ordinance and is liable on summary conviction to the penalty provided under that section.
