By former Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine- In the realm of politics, honesty and integrity are critical. When a leader abuses their position by leveraging lies and deceit, they undermine the foundations of democracy and sap the public’s trust. Such is the case with Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, whose trail of falsehoods has finally caught up with him. It is essential to expose the patterns of manipulation, deception, and dishonesty that have marked his tenure as a public servant, for the future of our democracy depends on holding our leaders accountable.

The Pandora’s Box of Lies:
From the outset of his political career, Jagdeo has displayed a penchant for deception. His tenure as President of Guyana was fraught with controversies that stemmed from his alleged involvement in widespread corruption, nepotism, and manipulation. However, it is the consistent pattern of lying to the public that has remained a dark cloud over his legacy.

One of the most egregious examples of Jagdeo’s deceit was his handling of the country’s economic development. While in office, he routinely touted false economic growth figures, painting a rosy picture of progress when, in reality, the majority of Guyanese citizens were left trapped in poverty. Jagdeo’s manipulation of economic data not only harmed the nation’s development but also undermined the trust of the people.

Environmental Exploitation:

Jagdeo’s deception extends beyond economics and reaches deep into environmental stewardship. Despite being lauded as a global advocate for sustainability, his real actions tell a different story. For years, Jagdeo claimed to champion the preservation of Guyana’s rainforests and the fight against climate change. He promised to protect these precious resources, but his promises melted away when faced with economic gains and the same he is doing with our oil resources.
It is alleged under Jagdeo’s watch, large-scale deforestation, illegal logging, and land grabs reached alarming levels. The very forests he vowed to safeguard were decimated in the name of agriculture and mining interests. This blatant betrayal of trust not only undermines Guyana’s reputation globally but also exposes the depths of Jagdeo’s lies.

Jagdeo’s propensity for dishonesty extends to his political manoeuvring. Throughout his career, he has been known to employ tactics of manipulation and misinformation to achieve personal and political gains. His ability to twist facts, manufacture narratives, and stir division has allowed him to maintain a stranglehold on power, benefiting himself and his cronies.

Jagdeo’s tactics also include the suppression of dissenting voices and the marginalisation of those who dare challenge his authority. Under his devious influence, the pillars of democracy crumble, as citizens grow disillusioned and afraid to speak out.

Conclusion:

The time has come for the Guyanese people to wake up from the spell of Bharrat Jagdeo’s lies. His legacy will forever be marred by deception, manipulation, and the erosion of trust in our political system. As a nation, we must demand accountability from our leaders and refuse to tolerate this culture of dishonesty any longer.

It is imperative that we support leaders who value integrity and honesty, for they are the foundation upon which a thriving democracy is built. We must reject the false promises and divisive tactics of individuals like Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, as they ultimately lead us down a destructive path.

I can recall one of our Veteran Trade Unionists, Lincoln Lewis, referred to him as “The Butcher From Unity”, which I know for the fact that he butchered Guyana and continues to do so.

In recognising and exposing Jagdeo’s lies, we take the first step towards restoring transparency, truth, and trust in our political landscape. Only then can Guyana move forward towards a future guided by values that uphold the best interests of its citizens.
