Thirty-two-year old Taijram Rahim was, on Tuesday, charged with the murder of his 28-year-old wife Amrita Rahim and remanded to prison until December 29, 2020 when he appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Blairmont Magistrates’ Court.

He was not required to plea to the indictable offence.

On Friday, Taijram stabbed Amrita, a mother of three, to death at their Lot 7 Marcy Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice home.
The murder took place just before midnight and according to reports, Amrita was in bed when she was stabbed to her left side breast.
According to the couple’s eldest child, the duo had just returned home from a relative’s birthday party where they were both imbibing when Taijram accused Amrita of infidelity and a heated argument ensued.
Amrita threatened to leave the marital home and this enraged the 32-year-old man who picked up a knife and stabbed his wife. He was arrested shortly after by Police.
Reports are that the couple were experiencing martial challenges and would constantly argue.
Amrita was picked up in an unconscious state by relatives and taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post mortem examination conducted on Amrita’s body by Government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, revealed that she died from a “perforation of the heart due to a stab wound”.
