In a powerful appeal for justice, Hon. Dawn Williams, an Indigenous Guyana MP and General Secretary of the PNCR, expressed her concerns regarding justice for the young Indigenous girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by PPP MP Nigel Dharamlall. Williams called for action and accountability, particularly urging the Minister of Amerindian Affairs to speak out in support of the victim and the Indigenous community.

Williams criticized the Minister of Amerindian Affairs for her silence on the matter, stressing the importance of protecting the rights of Indigenous people. She emphasized that it was unacceptable for the Minister not to issue a statement and urged the community to pressure her to take a stand. Williams, calling upon her fellow brothers and sisters, further highlighted the need for strong advocacy and support for the victim and thanked the Amerindian People’s Association for their support of the young victim.

Expressing gratitude to those who participated in the protest, she encouraged attendees to share their experiences and concerns with their respective communities, emphasizing the commitment to ongoing support and protest until justice is served.

The allegations of sexual assault have sparked national outrage and a renewed focus on the importance of protecting the rights and safety of Indigenous individuals. Williams’ impassioned words underscore the urgent need for action, transparency, and accountability in addressing such cases and ensuring justice is served for the victim.

As the nation awaits further developments, the call for justice grows louder, with Williams and others advocating for a society that stands up against any form of violence and works towards the protection and empowerment of all individuals, especially the most vulnerable among us.
