…some 186 ranks to be deployed daily in Georgetown
The Guyana Police on Sunday launched its countrywide Christmas Policing Plan which is aimed at ensuring the security and safety of citizens as they go about their activities during the holiday season
The policing plan which would be conducted until January 15 2012 will see an intensified focus on crime and traffic in all policing division with increased police presence in the business/shopping centers and communities generally, the police said in a press release.
“In the heightened intelligence-led operations ranks would be involved in emphasised foot, bicycle, vehicular, mounted, canine and marine patrols, road blocks and traffic controls while maintaining vigilance in relation to the continued enforcement of the covid 19 regulation,” the release stated.
During the conduct of these special policing activities/arrangements for the Christmas holiday season the Police Force said it looks forward for the support and cooperation from members of the business community, private security agencies and other stakeholders and especially members of the public
“The Force at this time is reiterating its caution to motorists to refrain from speeding and driving under the influence and to comply with the 5 C’s of driving -Care , Caution ,Common sense , Courtesy and Consideration. Also members of the public while shopping, or engaged in other business activities during the Christmas season, are reminded to be alert and aware of their surroundings, carrying only what may be necessary to complete their specific transaction and where possible consider alternative options of paying for merchandise.”

Meanwhile, in Regional Division #4 ‘A’ Commander, Simon McBean said their increased presence on the road and in the communities is aimed at minimising crime, the fear of crime, traffic accidents and traffic congestion.
“The intention of the heightened policing presence is to create a safe environment for all business owners, shoppers and visitors during the Christmas Season. To achieve this, the division will be divided into ten sectors that would be adequately manned by foot, bicycles and motor vehicles patrols. Foot and bicycle patrols will be done between 08:00 to 18:00 hours daily while the vehicular patrols will be twenty-four hours. ”
McBean added that the duty will require a total of 186 ranks daily and as customary Police headquarters will support with about 50% of the ranks required.
The commander charged the ranks to be smartly turned out, courteous and professional at all times in carrying out their duties.
