An 11-year-old boy of No. 50 Village, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six) is nursing a fractured right shoulder after he was hit by a hire car on the No. 50 Village Public Road Monday.

According to reports, the child ran across the road into the path of the motorcar, which was driven by a 30-year-old man from Crabwood Creek, Corentyne. The driver recounted that he was proceeding south on the eastern carriage way of the Public Road at a moderate speed when the child ran from west to east across the road causing him to swerve east in an attempt to avoid a collision.

The driver said that despite attempts not to hit the child, the right side of his vehicle’s fender collided with the boy, who fell to the road while the vehicle, which was transporting four passengers at the time of the accident, ended up in a trench on the eastern side of the road.

The child, who was unconscious, was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was examined and thereafter transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. The child has regained consciousness but remains a patient of the hospital.

Police have since arrested the driver and taken possession of his motorcar.
