Some Pastors have become gods unto themselves

Dear Editor,

Some Pastors have become gods unto themselves. It is sad when you have to see what many Pastors are doing today. These leaders believe that they are the new celebrity in town and should be treated as such. These people have several bodyguards and persons carrying their bible and water bottle. These leaders term those who have become their water boys as armour bearer and coin it as servanthood.

They have redefined servanthood and placed emphasis on others serving them instead of them serving the church. Scripture requires all leaders to serve the people and not the other way around. “But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.” Luke 22:26 NLT

In his writing to the persecuted Gentiles the Apostle Peter reminded the elders about not “lording” over the people. (1 Peter 5:3) Christianity is not about being served but rather serving.

The god of Mammon has entered the heart of many leaders and as a result everything they do revolve around money. Now their life is about the abundance of riches. They often brag about their wealth in their sermons failing to realize shepherding is not about becoming rich. “Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly…” 1 Peter 5:2 NKJV

Even worse we see the thrones they build in the church and exalt themselves to a high position. What is even worse is that they have everyone becoming sons and daughters of the leader creating a “cult of personality.” Believers are to follow us as we follow Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

The church then responds to their whims and fancies with everyone idolising and worshipping them. The church then believes everything they say which is very theatrical instead of searching the scripture for themselves. (Acts 17:11)

These people often lie to the congregants in the name of prophecy just to get their money. “…I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied” Jeremiah 23:21b NIV

It is more dangerous when they speak of the Pastor more than Christ and knows everything about him and nothing about Christ.

Believers must know God for themselves and those leaders who have become a god unto themselves don’t know God. (Matthew 7:21-23)

Yours Truly,

Lincoln Robinson.
