Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation Apologizes for Vulgar Message Broadcast, Launches Full Investigation

The Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC) has issued an apology to the citizens and visitors of Guyana for a vulgar message that was broadcast via the digital messaging board at the bridge on Thursday night. A recent release stated that, “The message, which was perpetrated with ill intent by a yet unknown person or persons, cast a shadow of doubt over the corporation and its hardworking staff.”

According to Wayne Watson, General Manager of the DHBC, the incident was viewed as an attack and a total misrepresentation of the corporation’s mandate of ensuring safe and timely crossing for everyone using the Demerara Harbour Bridge. He added that the management of the DHBC will not take the incident lightly and has launched a full investigation into the matter.

The DHBC also assures the public that better systems and monitoring mechanisms will be put in place to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. They also urged the public to continue to be their partners in development, as they work to ensure only the most excellent service is given to them from the corporation.

The management of the DHBC also thanked the public for their swift response in contacting them about the incident and for their messages of concern. They encouraged the public to continue to report any incidents of this nature to the corporation.

The statement read that the DHBC is committed to ensuring that the Demerara Harbour Bridge remains a safe and reliable passage for everyone and will take all necessary steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. The public is encourage to report any incident that may compromise safety, so that the corporation can take action promptly.
