Benjamin’s Bakery on Friday held its annual bursary awards ceremony for 18 students who were successful at the recently concluded National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations.
Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand attended the ceremony which was held at Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD). In delivering her feature address, Manickchand urged the awardees to be grateful to those that support them along their journey. Reminding the children of the age-old adage, “It takes a village to raise a child”, the Minister said support such as the one given by Benjamin’s bakery must never be taken for granted.
The Education Minister encouraged the students to be diligent in their studies and make their parents, guardians, families and communities proud while noting that they are the future of Guyana.
The Minister urged the parents and guardians present at the simple ceremony to ensure that all students remain academically engaged despite the closure of schools across the country due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
She said too that in addition to school work, the children can learn new skills and develop hobbies which will help them to become rounded students and productive adults in the future.
Minister Manickchand congratulated the proprietor of Benjamin’s Bakery, Adrian Benjamin on his continued support to the Buxton community and nearby villages along the ECD.
Benjamin’s Bakery has been awarding Bursaries annually since 2007. The 27-year-old business initially focused on children in the Buxton community but eventually began including students from other villages on the Coast.
The beneficiaries are: Ladicia Adams (Annandale Secondary School); Shamar McKay (Queen’s College), Ria Lalbachan (Queen’s College), Daquan Chester (St. Rose’s High School), Shaqueena Batson (St. Stanislaus College), Alton Fraser (St. Joseph’s High School), Geetanjali Persaud (Queen’s College), Suraj Ramjattan (The Bishops’ High School), Lianna Dharampaul (Queen’s College), Ezekiel Glasgow (President’s College), Delayney Punwa (The Bishops’ High School), Kimberly Balgobin (St. Stanislaus College), Ariya Sadeek (St. Stanislaus College), Sanjana Duncan (St. Stanislaus College), Crystal Slater (St. Rose’s High School), Rebecca Bacchus (Good Hope Secondary),
Amar Gordon (St. Joseph’s High School) and Keron Chowtie (Queen’s College).
