Release- On December 6, SBM Offshore engaged with the part-time and full-time students of the Guyana Industrial Training Center to apprise them of the company’s role in Guyana and the career choices that are available in the oil and gas industry. This is the second in a series of planned career outreach engagements the company is conducting with schools in Guyana.

General Manager, Martin Cheong expressed pleasure at being at the outreach and outlined the exceptional safety and operational standards that SBM Offshore upholds. Mr. Cheong added that much focus is also placed on being an energy transition company, with a strong emphasis on ensuring local capacity development.

Talent Acquisition Specialist, Danny Seegobin—who is responsible for recruiting Guyanese nationals—used the opportunity to apprise students of the various career opportunities available within the industry. His presentation included the positions available both onshore and offshore, key competencies the company considers during the recruitment process, and a synopsis of the company’s Graduate Engineers’ Programme and Trainee Technician Programme, which are geared towards enhancing the skills of young Guyanese to play key roles in the country’s oil and gas sector.

Human Resources Business Partner Shaun Prince highlighted the company’s role in carbon reduction solutions, electrification and carbon capture technologies, residual emissions, and new power-generation technologies. Mr. Prince also introduced the students to the functions of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels in oil production.

SBM Offshore remains committed to utilising Guyanese in its operations. As such, the company is committed to providing training opportunities to locals and educating them on the opportunities within the sector.
