According to the release, “These items will primarily be used by students who are pursuing subjects in the Industrial Arts stream during their practical sessions.”

While addressing students at the school today, Dr. Tularam said that the Ministry of Education is conscious of the fact that with the movement of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), a key component is Occupational Safety, Health, and the Environment (OSHE).

He said that Occupational Safety, Health and the environment is important in everything that we do, even in our homes.

He said, “the Ministry is moving to ensure that every secondary school delivering TVET programs must incorporate the OSHE requirements in what they are doing.”

Dr. Tularam charged the school to ensure students use the equipment when they are performing tasks for subjects such as furniture making and electrical installation. He told the students that they must become safety conscious and know that safety is essential.

He said that 34 secondary schools have benefited from the Caribbean Examination Council’s pre-readiness audit for the offering of the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ). According to Dr. Tularam, Occupational Safety and Health is important to the implementation of the CVQ programme.

In total, the school received 12 pairs of safety gloves, 12 pairs of safety goggles, 12 safety vests and 12 hard hats (helmets). Dr. Tularam said that similar donations will be made to other secondary schools across Guyana.
