The Executive Committee of Advocates Guyana Inc. has joined the clarion call for justice by civil society for Isaiah and Joel Henry, and Haresh Singh one month after they were brutally murdered.
“We are deeply saddened and hurt by these horrific acts. It is our prayer that the love of God will consume and comfort their families at this time. We mourn with them. We join our voices in the call for justice which must not only be done but must also be seen to be done. We also recognise the old adage that justice delayed is justice denied and call for timely investigation and prosecution of these matters,” the organisation said in a statement.
Advocates Guyana Inc. which condemned strongly the murders of the West Berbice teenage trio said there is an urgent need for meaningful social dialogue among all stakeholders, including political leaders and representative organisations, leading to a semblance of truth, fairness, social justice, equal treatment, reconciliation, and togetherness for the future of Guyana.
“This call is not merely an utterance of moral duty; but a Constitutional duty owed to young Guyanese,” the organisation said while calling on all stakeholders to advocate meaningfully within the boundaries of the law to produce a society which respects and encourages people of all races to live in harmony and peace.
Additionally, Advocates Guyana Inc., which describes itself as a nationwide fellowship which serves the legal profession by deepening and strengthening the spiritual lives of its members, said that a blind eye cannot be turned to prejudice, hate, racism, violence, and other unjust acts which pose a threat to the lives and well-being of others.
The battered bodies of Joel and Isaiah Henry were found last month at the Cotton Tree backdam while Haresh Singh’s body was found dead in the Number Two Village backdam days after the Henry boys.
Investigations into the gruesome murders are ongoing.
