Caring For Others Inc. (CFOI), which is founded by Guyanese-American Mrs. Eslene Richmond-Shockley, has evidence their acquisition of land in 2018 from the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) is legitimate. The land is Plot A2, Plantation Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara. Payments to NICIL were made through Republic Bank and receipts issued by the bank.

The human services organisation which is headquartered in Atlanta, United States (U.S), provides global support to the needy. At the core of their work “is clothing and food distributions,[their] signature programmes, ranging from sending a Convoy of Care to areas struck by disaster to creating International Microeconomic Centres, designed to engage, educate and empower both those in need and those who have a desire to give and make a difference.”

Over the years the organisation has provided millions of US dollars’ worth of charity and social responses in several regions of Guyana.. Given the volume of work being done here the organisation took the decision to set up warehousing facilities, as had been done in the Caribbean and elsewhere, to make their services more home based.

However, last July when the organisation made the move to begin construction of a building they learnt NICIL had removed them from the assigned location and given the land to someone else.

Richmond-Shockley, Founder President & Chief Executive Officer of CFOI, has not only written President Irfaan Ali seeking the have the matter amicably settled with the land remaining in the hands of the original lessee, i.e.,  CFOI; the organisation has also hired the legal services of Hughes, Fields & Stoby to defend and preserve its interest.

Village Voice was reliably informed members of the U.S Congress from Georgia and New York are keeping a keen eye on the matter.
