| The development of ‘Silica (Sand) City’ is being aggressively pursued, said the Ministry of Housing and Water in a press release. On Wednesday, Minister Susan Rodrigues and a team from the Ministry including from the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GLSC) visited the site earmarked for the city’s first phase development within the vicinity of Kuru-Kururu on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway. The inland city, according to the ministry, will complement Georgetown and is designed to address growing climate change risks. 3,000 acres of land will be set aside for the first phase and the ministry is expected to start clearing the first 185 acres, which will feature the ‘Innovation Village’ and the first 400 young professional homes. The First phase development phase is also expected to feature a number of commercial and industrial developments, as well as, hospitals. And according to the ministry while these plans are in motion, land acquisition for phase two is also in progress through collaborative efforts with GLSC. Shortlisting for houses has begun. |
