Invitations were also published for bids for similar sea defences to be built at Zeelandia, Wakenaam Island and at Cane Garden and Blenheim, Leguan Island, Essequibo Islands -West Demerara (Region Three).

In Region Three, Phase II works will start at Uitvlugt while Phase III works will progress at Anna Catherina.

Residents of Mahaica-Berbice (Region Five) can also expect similar works to progress at the Mosquito Hall foreshore.

Residents in No. 61 Village, Corentyne, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six) can also look forward to the construction of riprap sea defences in Phases I and II.

Government has already awarded a $168 million contract to M&B Contractors to conduct works along the Mahaicony foreshore. BK International and A&S General Contractors are also expected to swiftly conclude overdue works spanning a 500-metre section of the earthen embankment.

Minister, Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill and a team of officials from the Ministry’s Sea and River Defence Department have engaged the residents in the affected areas.

The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board was commissioned on Tuesday paving the way for bids. (DPI)
