Surinamese nabbed at backtrack port with machine gun, ammo

In a statement police said around 22:00hrs, on Monday Customs Law Enforcement Officers were on patrol duty at  #79 Village Foreshore, Corriverton Berbice when they noticed a speed boat arrived from Suriname and landed at Eno boat landing.

Five passengers were on board the said boat.
The officers intercepted the said vessel and conducted a search on the passengers’ persons and their belongs during which on a 26-year-old man of Lot Zuelen, Paramaribo  Suriname the officers discovered;
(1) One beretta Sub machine gun, with the number defaced.
(2) Twenty five (25) live 9mm ammunition.
(3)$3,000 US currency
(4) $6,250 SRD.

The suspect was arrested and taken into police custody at Springlands Police Station, along with the firearm and ammunition. The items were marked, sealed and lodged by Customs Officers , in the presence of the suspect, who is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.
