Driver dies after hitting dead cow at  Diamond

A man has succumbed to injuries he sustained after vehicle crashed into the carcass of a cow at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.  Dead is Vishraykanand Narayan, a 43-year-old of Lot 8 Downer Street, Grove E.B.D..Injured is Geeta Sammy, 46-year-old of Lot 8 Downer Street Grove, E.B.D.

In a press release police said enquiries disclosed that motor vehicle PGG 9779 owned and being driven at the time by Vishraykanand Narayan was proceeding south along the eastern side of the New Diamond Access Road, East Bank Demerara, carrying his wife, Geeta Sammy who was seated in the front seat of the vehicle when the driver collided with a dead cow which was lying on the said side of the roadway. He reportedly lost control of his vehicle which toppled several times and collided with a concrete culvert situated along the road where it remained stationary causing the driver and the occupant to receive injuries about their bodies.

They were both picked up in a conscious condition by public spirited citizens,  placed into an ambulance and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Center where they were both seen and examined by a doctor on duty. Geeta Sammy was treated for minor abrasions about the body and sent away while Vishraykanand Narayan was admitted a patient suffering from a fractured shoulder and pelvis and was later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was further seen and examined by a doctor on duty. He was admitted a patient in the male surgical ward where he later succumbed to his injuries about 06:55hrs. The body was escorted to the said Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
