East La Penitence man arrested at Den Amstel with 1,410 grams of suspected cannabis*

Police Statement
A 28-year-old man from East La Penitence, Georgetown was arrested this morning at an unfinished house in Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara after he was caught with 1,410 grams of suspected marijuana.

Police ranks at about 09:00 hrs today (Sunday June 12), acting on information received, went to Den Amstel where contact was made with the 28-year-old who was found standing next to a table on which had a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with a bulky black haversack.

One of the ranks, a Corporal, identified himself to the suspect as a policeman dressed in plain clothing, and in the presence of the other ranks told the suspect of his suspicion.

They then carried out further searches, and inside the black haversack which was on the table were two transparent plastic bags each containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The suspect was cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station. The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and it amounted to 1,410 grams.

The suspect was placed into custody pending charges.
