Two new COVID-19 deaths recorded | Total deaths now at 73 

A 94-year-old woman from Barima-Waini and a 64-year-old man from Potaro-Siparuni (Region 8) are the country’s latest COVID-19 fatalities, the Ministry of Health has disclosed.

The death toll now stands at 73.
In a press statement issued moments ago, the Health Ministry disclosed that at around 10:00hrs on Thursday, the 94-year-old woman, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died.

It was explained that the Barima-Waini resident was pronounced dead upon arrival at a medical facility. A sample taken from the deceased later tested positive for COVID-19.
In the case of the 64-year-old Potaro-Siparuni resident, the Public Health Ministry explained that the man died while receiving care at a medical facility. “The test sample was collected from the deceased at the time of admission and was tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently,” it further explained.
In expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, the Health Ministry said it will make every effort to provide necessary support during this difficult time.
“Officials of the Ministry have contacted all relatives and persons to facilitate contact tracing and rapid assistance to everyone who may have been exposed to the now-dead persons,” the Ministry said even as it appealed to the public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and their families.
The health authority is reminding all Guyanese to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO. 9) which are in effect until September 30, 2020. The order emphasizes the need for correct and consistent use of a face masks when out in public; the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
