A 36-year-old man is currently under police guard at the Mackenzie Hospital Complex, where he is being treated for injuries he sustained when his car slammed into a police vehicle during a high-speed chase in Linden.
The injured man, who was found with 9mm Taurus Pistol, a magazine and 11 matching rounds, was trying to evade the police after he was seen acting in a suspicious manner at party.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said at around 2:00hrs on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, a mobile patrol was operating in Wismar, Linden when it responded to a noise nuisance report at Blueberry Hill. When the police arrived in PAB # 3155, they observed that there was a private party being held at a shop in the area with approximately 100 persons in attendance.
It was then that the 36-year-old man and another individual were seen acting in a suspicious manner.
The men upon seeing the police hurriedly entered motor vehicle PVV # 4105 and drove away at a fast rate of speed in an eastern direction along the Burnham Drive Public Road.
“The ranks gave chase behind the said motor vehicle and the car stopped and the male in the passenger side exited while the driver continued to drive at a fast rate of speed. The ranks managed to intercept same at Burnham Drive in the vicinity of Riverview Hotel and they asked the driver to exit his vehicle for a search to be conducted on his person.
The driver then reversed his vehicle and drove away towards Silvertown area,” the police detailed.
Even as they continued to give chase, the police officers requested back up.
“PAB #3161 joined the chase and motor vehicle PVV #4105 crashed into the right side of the said force motor vehicle PAB #3161 and veered off the road into the GTT power dish on the northern side of the public road,” the police said.
The ranks exited both Police vehicles and cordoned off the area. The 36-year-old suspect then exited his vehicle through the right side front window.
When the car was searched in the presence of the suspect, one 9MM Taurus Pistol, a magazine and eleven 9MM ammunition rounds were found under the driver’s seat.
The man was told of the offence and cautioned, however, he denied having knowledge of the gun and ammunition. “me ain’t know about that firearm why yall fighting me down for,” the man reportedly said.
It was observed that the said motor car received extensive damages and the suspect had what appeared to be injuries to his right hand. He was then arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex where he was admitted as a patient under guard.
