In a statement, the Guyana Police Force explained that 70-year-old Orlando Braithwaite of Lot 86 Sophia, Georgetown was driving pickup GMM 6541 along the northern carriageway of Zeelugt Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, when he suffered a blow out and ended up in a trench on the southern side of the said road, causing the vehicle to come to a complete halt.

As a result, Braithwaite contacted Jainarine, a canter truck operator with a Hiab crane to remove his vehicle.

The accident had occurred around 16:30hrs, however, Jainarine arrived on the scene at 18:00hrs with his canter GYY 7142 along with his assistant.

“As Seeram Jainarine was standing at the right side of the canter, operating the crane, it came into contact with a Guyana Power and Light electrical wire causing the wire to spark and Seeram Jainarine was pitched to the ground,” the police detailed.

The assistant stopped a car and took Jainarine to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Police was summoned and the body of the deceased was escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour, where it is currently awaiting a post mortem examination.

Investigation in progress.
