—Opposition MP urges

Member of Parliament and former government minister, Tabitha Sarabo-Halley has urged citizens to get vaccinated against the dreaded Covid-19.
Sarabo-Halley made the call in a Facebook post as she expressed condolences on the passing of Imran Khan.
“While some of us may be fortunate to get through a bout of covid without serious effects some of us require another layer of protection to help us to fight this covid. Taking the vaccine is another layer of protection. Please take the vaccine,” the MP encouraged. Khan died early Tuesday morning just over a week after he was hospitalised at the Infectious Diseases Hospital after contracting Covid-19. His death has shocked many, as Khan has struck a very hopeful tone on Sunday in a Facebook post. “To my fellow Guyanese, the death of Imran Khan is shocking and sad to those who knew him, worked with him and understood him.

He will be missed. Sincere condolences goes out to his family and friends,” Sarabo-Halley added. Addressing concerns about deficiencies in the public healthcare system, Mrs Sarabo-Halley said: “Let us be clear, our healthcare system has been in a mess for over 20 years. We all fear having to go to public hospitals for anything too serious. A new building would not change this unless the management of healthcare becomes a priority. What then are we left with? We have to take all the necessary precautions to ensure we do not end up in any hospital.” The MP urged citizens to eat healthy, saying this is a priority. “We must ensure we are putting the right things in our bodies, getting the right vitamins and nutrients is necessary and taking the vaccine is helpful.  We can blame the health system and we can blame the policy makers but at the end of the day we each have to do our best to take care of ourselves and our loved ones because the system has never worked for those who need it most,” the MP concluded.
