…Mervyn Williams sends positive Indigenous Heritage message from COVID ICU

Former Parliamentarian and PNCR Executive Member, Mervyn Wiliams, who is currently in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), has sent a message of unity to Guyanese ahead of Wednesday’s commencement of Indigenous Heritage Month.
Messages of support and well wishes have been pouring in for Williams who requires a ventilator to assist with his breathing. Sending a voice message to the Village Voice News on Tuesday, he mustered strength to give a positive message to Guyanese.
“It’s Indigenous Heritage Month again, let us change our lives for the better of the nation. Let us bury the hatchet, bury division, bury separation, bury hatred, bury agony. Let us pick up the cross and let us walk as citizens of this great nation, of this great universe. Let us share Christ, let us share love, let us share his compassion for humanity, let us share his mighty vision for his own world,” he said.

Williams is from Region Three and is well-known to residents there. He was also the Ministerial Advisor at the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs under the former Administration. He has  been in the COVID-19 ICU for some two weeks.
He also said in the voice message: “Let us, together, harmonise. The old ways will see us through: traditional knowledge. God’s guidance will keep us alive. Let us together hold on, link hands, link hearts, link minds. Love each other until we can love each other no more. We will never become stones but we will become memories and ancestral properties of those to come. May God guide us abundantly and may we continue to give life to the teachings of our ancestors. Let us love, let us not do negatives, my God bless us in this 2021 Indigenous Month.”
Williams in a subsequent message reminded us that September 3 will mark three years since his mother died at the age of 87. He urges all Guyanese to pray for his and other patients’ recovery.
