…August starts out with 8 deaths, 14 in ICU
There have been more COVID-19 deaths in Guyana in 2021 than days of the year. The total number of deaths as of August 5 is 554, but this can be split into 390 deaths in 2021 and 164 deaths in 2020.
Most recent data indicates that the month of August commenced with 8 deaths as of August 5 with 54 new cases and 14 in the COVID-19 ICU as of August 6. For the year thus far, the number of COVID-19 related deaths per month are as follows: January – 13; February – 20; March – 36; April – 66; May – 98; June – 79; July – 68 and 8 as of August 5.
More persons have died from Region Four than any other Region. The Region has also experienced the most positive cases at over 10,200 followed by Region Three at over 2,600.
Meanwhile, males continue to surpass females in the number of deaths. For example, 30 females died in July while 38 males died. For August thus far, 6 females have died compared to two males.
The youngest to die this month was a 30-year-old female from Region Four compared to a 16-year-old male last month. As of August 6, there were 668 persons in home isolation, 95 in institutional isolation and 5 in institutional quarantine.
