‘Don’t accept unvaccinated customers’

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has alerted all restaurants, bars, conference facilities, banquet facilities, casinos, and betting shops that in order for the public to utilize their services, they must present a vaccination card and Identification (ID) Card.

In a notice on Wednesday, the GTA stated its notice is in keeping with the gazette National Emergency Measures which took effect August 1, 2021. The GTA stated that it will host a Zoom meeting on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 09:00 hours to discuss these changes, the implemented monitoring and enforcement systems and other areas in need of clarity.

Outlining in detail the additional pre-existing requirements of restaurants, bars, conference facilities and banquet facilities, the Tourism Authority stated that the capacity of operation must remain at 60 percent; operation hours remain at 04:00 hours to 21:30 hours; tables must be placed two meters apart with only four seats per table and one meter apart; there should be no bar stools, pool tables/snooker games and no buffet dining and all other health and safety protocols apply.

Meanwhile, for casinos and betting shops, the operation hours remain at 04:00 hours to 21:30 hours; the capacity of operation must remain at 40 percent and all other health and safety protocols apply.

Recently, the Government implemented new mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements for transportation operators and conductors, casinos, betting shops and cinema users, and all who wish to attend a Government Ministry or Agency.

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) expressed agreement with the statements of Government officials that there should be “consequences” for the unvaccinated. It has also noted its support for businesses that make it mandatory for employees to be vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
