Two die in Alberttown fire

Reports are that two women, a Venezuelan and Cuban national, have perished following a fire on Thursday morning at Fifth and Albert Street in Alberttown.

Reports are that the bodies of the two women and another person  were found in an apartment aback the Amazon Hotel, following the fire which was observed sometime after 8 am. The fire was said to be electrical in origin.

One of the woman has been identified as 25-year old Marilina Texidor Alonzo, a Cuban national.

Members of the Guyana Fire Service managed to enter the building which was engulfed in flames when responded to the scene. A number of Cuban and Venezuelan migrants have been living at the complex.

Investigations are underway.
