…charges to be filed soon

Fresh allegations of electoral fraud were put to the Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowendfield; and the Deputy Chief Elections Officer, Roxanne Myers when they appeared before police investigators at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters at Eve Leary on Tuesday afternoon.
Lowenfield and Myers, who were accompanied by their Lawyer Nigel Hughes, are now being accused of conspiracy to defraud the electors of Guyana.
In a brief telephone interview with Village Voice News on Tuesday evening, Hughes explained that two days ago, a senior police officer made contact with him and requested that both Lowenfield and Myers report to the CID Headquarters. Hughes subsequently arranged for the Election Officials to report to the CID Headquarters at 15:30hrs on Tuesday.

“I took them in and Mr. Lowenfield was first interviewed, and an allegation of conspiracy to defraud the electors of Guyana was put to him. He was given the option to remain silent; he exercised the option to remain silent,” Hughes explained.

Lowenfield was followed by Myers, who faced similar allegations. “There were two charges put to each of them – conspiracy to defraud the electors for the regional and for the national elections,” the attorney further detailed.
Hughes said he was informed that the police intend to file the charges against Lowenfield and Myers by Wednesday, subsequent to which, a new court date would be set.

While Hughes was leaving, the police also requested to speak with the Region Four Returning Officer (RO), Clairmont Mingo. Hughes has agreed to have Mingo report to the CID Headquarters Wednesday morning.

The fresh allegations put to Lowenfield and Myers come days after the High Court handed over the Statements of Poll (SOPs) and Statements of Recount (SORs) from the 2020 Elections to the CID in keeping with the orders of the Chief Justice (ag) Roxane George.

Lowenfield, Myers and Mingo are also facing a number of charges with respect to misconduct in public office and forgery.
