Following several new cases of the COVID-19 which were recorded within the Matarkai sub-region in the North West District in recent days, the regional task force has decided to enforce a mandatory 6pm to 6 am curfew at the communities within the area.
The areas, which include Port Kaituma, Matthew’s Ridge and Arakaka, will go on the lockdown measure from Sunday April 25 for five days.
In recent weeks , positive COVID-19 cases were recorded at several areas in Port Kaituma and these include Fitzburg,Oronoque and Canal Bank. More than 30 deaths attributed to the pandemic have been recorded in the North West District region. Nationally, COVID-19 positive figures and the death toll continues to rise ; the Ministry of Health announced that two additional deaths on Sunday April 25, 2021 took the total death toll to 283. Thus far, 50 persons have died for the month of April from conditions attributed to the pandemic.
While some areas across the country have implemented lockdown measures, the more populated areas including Georgetown remain open as per normal.
