GUYANA COVID-19 CASES SURPASS 9,000

….SIX PERSONS REMAIN IN ICU 

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Guyana surpassed 9,000 on Friday. According to the Ministry of Health, Guyana now has 9,069 confirmed cases of the virus with a death toll of 206. Of that number, 76 were recorded within the last 24 hours.
According to the Ministry’s statistical report, six persons remain in the COVID-19 ICU while 30 persons are in institutional isolation and another 562 persons in home isolation. Twelve persons, the Ministry said, are in institutional quarantine.

To date, 4,670 males have contracted the virus in Guyana while 4, 399 females have been tested positive. Collectively, 8,265 persons have recovered from the disease.

Region Four has the highest number of confirmed cases with 4,187 followed by Region One with 1024 and Region Three with 759 cases. Region Two has recorded the lowered number with 239.

Guyana recorded its first COVID-19-related death on March 11, 2020, under then APNU+AFC Government. Data shows that from March 11 to August 2 when the coalition demitted Office – a period of six months — the previous Administration recorded a total of 21 COVID-19 related deaths.

However, from August 4, 2020, to March 12, 2021 – eight months — the country recorded 185 additional COVID-19 deaths.
