Dear Editor,
This is a call for a thorough and impartial investigation into the death of Mr Reid, who was reportedly electrocuted while working for Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) in Linden.
It is alleged that, following the incident, the electricity provider arrived at the scene, cut the live wire involved and disposed of it in nearby bushes. Thanks to the intervention of the local police, the discarded wire was reportedly retrieved.
These allegations raise serious questions that demand clear answers. Why was the scene allegedly tampered with? Why was the wire hurriedly removed and disposed of rather than preserved as potential evidence for an investigation?
The circumstances surrounding Mr Reid’s death must be fully examined, and any attempt to interfere with evidence must be investigated. The public deserves to know what happened, whether proper safety measures were in place and who, if anyone, should be held accountable.
I call on the management of the electricity provider and the Government to do the right thing. They must ensure a transparent investigation and accept responsibility if negligence or safety failures are established, including the presence of a live wire in an area where civilians live, work or move about.
Lindeners deserve to live and work in a safe environment. No worker or member of the public should have to risk their life because of unsafe electrical infrastructure.
Mr Reid’s death must not be allowed to pass without answers, accountability and meaningful action to prevent another tragedy.
Yours truly,
Troy Glasgow
