Dear Editor,

Responding to Jermaine Figueira’s misleading claims is a painful exercise, but the facts surrounding the new McKenzie Bridge must be addressed.

African Guyanese Ancestral Lands is a Key Driver for their Economic and Social Stability, if they are Allowed to Organise these Lands and Modernise these Villages in Peace

During the period when discussions, surveys and donor-related engagements were being pursued under the PNC, Figueira appeared unable to grasp the process or appreciate the groundwork involved. His current commentary raises questions about whether he understands the history and development of the project he now seeks to discuss.

His tendency to substitute political rhetoric for informed analysis does little to advance meaningful public debate. Instead of engaging with the facts, he appears more interested in creating controversy and establishing a political identity for himself.

The PPP/C administration has yet to demonstrate that its developmental agenda represents a meaningful departure from the record of political division, allegations of corruption and racial tensions that have characterised its time in office.

Figueira’s shifting political positions also raise questions about the consistency of his public commentary and the principles guiding his interventions. His credibility will ultimately depend on his willingness to engage honestly with the facts rather than resort to rhetoric.

The people of Linden deserve an informed discussion about the McKenzie Bridge, including its history, the groundwork undertaken, the financing arrangements and the contributions of successive administrations. They deserve facts, not political theatrics.

Yours truly,
Dexter Grant
