Dear Editor,

The continued pressure being placed on Opposition Leader Hon. Azruddin Mohamed and persons associated with him raises serious concerns about the direction of democracy in Guyana. To many Guyanese, it appears that the PPP Government is increasingly uncomfortable with Mohamed and the WIN party because they have refused to remain silent and continue to challenge the Government on issues of accountability, governance and alleged corruption.

39.8% profit share means Ring Fencing but short-lived with many questions – looks fishy!

Azruddin Mohamed has become a powerful voice for Guyanese who believe the Government must be held accountable. Instead of trying to silence or intimidate the Opposition, the PPP should answer the questions being raised and allow the facts to speak for themselves.

The Guyana Police Force must also operate independently and professionally. Any allegations of harassment, intimidation or politically motivated action against Opposition supporters or employees must be taken seriously, as the PPP Government is using the the Guyana Police Force to silence the Opposition.

WIN must now turn up the pressure—hold weekly press conferences, expose wrongdoing with evidence, challenge the Government on every major issue and keep the people informed.

Azruddin Mohamed is not the enemy of democracy, Azruddin Mohamed is the PPP’s Political Nightmare. And if WIN continues to stand with the people, the PPP may have a very serious political battle ahead.

Yours truly,
Pt. Ubraj Narine, JP, COA
Former Staff Sgt. (GDF), Mayor
City of Georgetown
