The unbeaten Guyana Amazon Warriors return to Providence on Sunday seeking to maintain their perfect start to the Caribbean Premier League campaign when they face the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
The Warriors have won all five of their matches so far and will enter the evening contest with considerable momentum following their emphatic eight-wicket victory over Jamaica Kingsmen in their opening home-leg match.
Guyana chased down Jamaica’s 159 for seven in only 17.2 overs, reaching 160 for two with 16 deliveries remaining. Rahmanullah Gurbaz struck 54 from 35 balls, Mavendra Dindyal made 33 from 17, while Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer finished unbeaten on 39 and 30 respectively.
The Warriors’ bowling attack also played a key role in restricting the Kingsmen, with Dwaine Pretorius and Khary Pierre taking two wickets apiece.
But the Patriots represent another challenge.
St Kitts and Nevis have three victories from eight matches and enter the contest needing results as the race for playoff positions intensifies. The Warriors, meanwhile, have already established themselves as one of the leading sides in the tournament with five wins from five.
The Providence match is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time on Sunday, according to the published CPL fixture schedule.
For Guyana, the home leg carries particular significance.
The Warriors are playing five matches in Guyana between September 4 and 11, giving local supporters an extended opportunity to watch the franchise at Providence.
