IDB Invest will open Sustainability Week 2026 in Barbados on Tuesday, marking the first time the organisation’s flagship private-sector and investment-focused event is being held in the Caribbean.

The opening day is expected to bring together senior government officials, financial institutions, investors and corporate leaders to advance discussions on private-sector solutions aimed at supporting sustainable growth across the Caribbean and Latin America.

Sustainability Week serves as IDB Invest’s primary platform for engaging the private sector on strategies to mobilise capital, strengthen markets and expand investment flows across the region.

This year’s discussions will focus on key sectors including financial markets, critical minerals, agribusiness, tourism, infrastructure and climate-related investments, with emphasis on risk management, innovation and bankable project development.

By hosting the event in Barbados, organisers say the Caribbean is being placed at the centre of regional and global conversations on sustainable finance and development, while creating opportunities to connect investors with concrete projects across multiple sectors.

The opening day will feature senior public and private sector leaders, including The Honourable Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados; James Scriven, Chief Executive Officer of IDB Invest; Daniel Best, President of the Caribbean Development Bank; and executives from leading global and regional companies and financial institutions active in banking, critical minerals, tourism, insurance, agribusiness, and consumer goods.

Organisers said the forum is designed to deepen dialogue between the public and private sectors on how investment can drive long-term development outcomes across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Sustainability Week will continue with additional sessions exploring financing mechanisms, climate resilience strategies and investment opportunities across emerging sectors in the region.
