Suspected trafficking of Venezuelan in Guyana

Neil London, a 40-year-old construction worker of Kumaka Water Front North West District and Lot 252 Grove East Bank Demerara.

Police are investigating a suspected Trafficking In Person (TIP) committed on a teenage girl who is an unemployed Venezuelan previously residing at Kumaka Water Front, Mabaruma North West District.

According to reports, the teen came to Guyana in November 2020 and was staying at the Kumaka Water Front wharf for some time. Subsequently, she sent for her teen brother who is also a Venezuelan national living, at the time, in Tucipita, Venezuela.

The male teen arrived in Guyana on January 26, 2021, via speed boat and began working as a labourer at the Kumaka Water Front and as staying at the said wharf.

Eventually, the female teenager befriended the suspect, Neil London, a 40-year-old construction worker of Kumaka Water Front North West District and Lot 252 Grove East Bank Demerara.

On February 16, 2021, at about 08:30 hours, the suspect took the female teen to Georgetown via an Air Service Limited chartered plane leaving her brother at Mabaruma North West District.

A report was made at the Mabaruma Police Station at 14:30 hours by the male teen who is now in the care of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
