The People’s National Congress Reform, which is the major party in the A Partnership for National Unity (PNCR/APNU) has extended Good Friday greetings to the Christian community across Guyana, calling for national reflection, unity and renewed commitment to justice amid what it described as challenging times for the country.
In a statement, the party said, “On this solemn and sacred occasion of Good Friday, we extend heartfelt greetings to the Christian community throughout our beloved nation. Today, we pause in reverence and reflection on the ultimate sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, His suffering, His crucifixion, and His boundless love for humanity.”
The opposition highlighted the significance of Good Friday as a reminder of sacrifice, humility and faith, noting that Christ’s journey to Calvary represents “courage, truth, and the triumph of righteousness over oppression.” It urged citizens to reflect on their own responsibilities in pursuing justice, dignity and the greater good.
Referencing current national circumstances, the PNCR/APNU stated, “As Guyanese, we find ourselves in challenging times. Many are burdened by uncertainty and concern about the direction of our country.” It added that the message of Good Friday calls on citizens “to stand firm in faith, to remain resolute in the face of hardship, and never to lose hope in the promise of renewal and resurrection.”
The party also emphasised collective responsibility, stating that sacrifice rooted in truth and justice is not in vain, and calling on citizens to rise above division and fear. It urged Guyanese to unite in purpose and to confront national challenges “with courage, discipline, and prayer,” while safeguarding “the principles of democracy, fairness, and freedom.”
Encouraging unity and shared purpose, the statement said, “We urge all Guyanese to come together in unity, drawing strength from our shared faith and common aspirations.” It also called for prayers for the nation and for wisdom among leaders.
The message concluded with a call for compassion, truth and justice, adding, “May the sacrifice of Christ inspire us all to walk in truth, to act with compassion, and to remain unwavering in our pursuit of justice and unity. May God bless you, and may God bless Guyana.”
