The Government of Guyana is moving ahead with plans to establish a new vocational training centre at Thomas Lands, as part of efforts to strengthen technical and skills-based education across the country.

The proposed facility forms part of the administration’s continued investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), aimed at ensuring that training programmes remain aligned with the evolving demands of the modern labour market.

According to information released on Friday, contractors interested in undertaking the project can obtain bidding documents from the Accounts Department of the Ministry of Health (Guyana), located at Lot 1 Brickdam in Georgetown. The documents are available for a non-refundable fee of $3,500.

Completed submissions must be delivered to the Chairman of the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) at the Ministry of Finance (Guyana), Main and Urquhart Streets, Georgetown, no later than 09:00 hrs on March 26, 2026.

The new centre is expected to further expand access to technical training opportunities for students and workers seeking practical skills.

Over the past five years, the government has commissioned a number of instructional training facilities in communities including Bartica, St Ignatius, the North West District, as well as Beterverwagting, Fellowship, and Hopetown. These facilities have collectively benefited more than 3,900 individuals.

For 2026, the government has set aside $2.5 billion to further expand access to TVET programmes nationwide. Of that amount, $723.1 million has been earmarked to train an additional 2,000 persons during the year.

Officials say the construction of the Thomas Lands facility reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to equipping Guyanese with practical, job-ready skills that can support long-term employment and economic security.
